Dr. Shimon Amselem is Chief Scientist at SpacePharma with 25 years of solid experience in the pharmaceutical industry in drug discovery and drug delivery systems.

SpacePharma’s mission is to become a world leader in providing simplified, valuable and affordable, end-to-end microgravity services and solutions for research. SpacePharma has developed sophisticated miniaturized lab systems provided with sensors and readers capable of working in different microgravity platforms, ground simulators, parabolic flights, and nano-satellites. All experiments are remotely controlled and commanded by the users using SpacePharma’s scientist front-end proprietary software installed in a laptop or smartphone. Scientists can see the results using miniature readers like light microscope or spectrometer incorporated close to the reaction chamber. Customized lab-on-chips microfluidics-based fluid handling system generating microdroplets are used to perform colloidal chemistry or biological experiments increasing significantly the magnitude of microgravity research in the near future.

Formerly, Shimon was Chief Scientist at Marval Pharma a company developing nano-encapsulated iodinated products for CT imaging, CEO & Founder of Nextar ChemPharma Solutions Ltd - a contract manufacturing organization providing pharmaceutical development, analytical tests and manufacturing for clinical trials,VP Pharmaceutical Development at Pharmos Corp (NJ), and Senior Research Associate at Nova Pharmaceutical Corp (MD), and Abello SA (Spain). Shimon holds a PhD in Pharmacology from the School of Pharmacy, Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences, and B.Sc. in Chemistry, all degrees from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Post-doctoral Fellow at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, Washington DC. Dr Amselem was involved in the pharmaceutical development of many new products, 6 of them marketed in the US and Europe, has published 75 scientific articles and book chapters on pharmaceutical research and drug development and is inventor of 50 international patents in formulation and drug delivery technologies.
